November artist of the month: Seppo Nikkinen

1.11.2026 - 30.11.2026

As a professional visual artist, I have depicted landscapes and living reality through various stylistic approaches. In my creative process, I am impulsive—willing to fully immerse myself in the act of making and to embrace the images and works that emerge from it. My pieces often exist at the intersection of the representational and the non-representational, hovering between the everyday and the realm of imagination. My work is heavily influenced by the tools and materials I employ; I use ink, pastels, oil and acrylic paints, printmaking techniques—such as woodcuts—and contemporary art created from recycled materials.

My artistic practice is process-oriented, utilizing both personal and traditional methods, as well as mixed-media techniques. The landscapes I depict frequently feature bogs or the surfaces of water. My abstract paintings and works are constructed from a multitude of distinct elements, yet water and landscape often appear within them—sometimes even by chance. At the fringes of art, I have discovered a form of therapy—a space for the emotional realm and life’s defining moments. For me, these experiences take on a quasi-religious quality, which I have adapted and shaped to serve my own artistic purposes.
