August Artist of the Month: Regina Siira

1.8.2023 - 31.8.2023

When I start painting, I make plans, sketch and create stories. Often the figures of nature in my paintings, such as trees, stones, flowers and others, live their own lives, side by side with us humans. But sometimes they tell us what kind of world we humans live in right now.

Landscapes often act as a starting point, from which the works then develop in a more abstract direction. Several works can be created from the same subject, when the different seasons of nature change their appearance, giving new perspectives, rhythms and values to my works.

My favorite painting technique is oil. Painting with oil gives the surface different structures and surfaces. I love the bold and free brush strokes. Sometimes I draw with oil pastels. I especially like to make sketches with oil pastels for my oil paintings or even draw in nature.

The names of the paintings are part of their stories. If the painting is without a name, to me it means that it is not ready yet.
